Committee Descriptions

Lizzie's Private Secretaries: Several community members, with a strength in organization, will familiarize themselves with the guest list to plan sleeping arrangements, the table seating, and the menus for the dinner parties. Good penmanship is a plus, for these individuals will be in charge of designing place cards for the dining room table. Prior to visiting the Park-McCullough House, these private secretaries must become proficient in penmanship, gain an understanding of the foods being served, and understand the floor plan of the mansion.

Annie's Assistants: A group of community members, with a keen eye and strong constitution, will be selected to serve under Annie, the head housekeeper. The responsibilities of this group will be to make the beds with precision, meticuously dust and polish the furniture, and impeccably set the dining room table for the lavish affair of hosting a president. Prior to visiting the Park-McCullough House, Annie's assistants will be expected to familiarize themselves with the rooms in the house and the daily duties required of them.

Lila's Banquet Committee: A number of community members, gifted in the field of mathematics, will be needed to calculate the amount of food necessary to feed the expected 3,500 guests at the Centennial Celebration to be held in Bennington following the Dedication of the Monument. Prior to the visit to the mansion, these individuals must create a proposal for the lay-out of tables and seating of these 3,500 celebrants, as well as order the correct quantities of food to feed the masses.

John G. McCullough's Speech Writers: John McCullough will be delivering a speech for the Monument's dedication. He has enlisted the help of several strong writers who will research important facts about the Battle of Bennington, Vermont decision to become the 14th state to join the United States, and the building of the Battle Monument. These excellent writers will be asked to prepare and deliver a speech to an audience of their fellow community members upon arrival at the Park-McCullough House.

Robert's Transportation Committee: These individuals must have an interest and knowledge of the various systems of transportation in 1891 as well as an ablility to oversee the maintenance of the president's carriage. This group must be attentive to detail as they schedule and map the route of the president, by rail into the North Bennington Station, and by coach to the Park-McCullough House. Prior to a visit to the mansion, the transportation committee must prepare a report of its plan.
