We are happy to announce our opening day for 2016 will be Friday, May 20th with the opening of a new exhibition in our reception space at 4pm. Regular tours will begin Sunday the 22nd from 12 - 4pm, and continue through October. We celebrated the house's 150th anniversary last year, and are excited to push our programming forward in this next one.
This spring, we will be presenting a public exhibition about the history of the Hall Farm. Culling from hundreds of artifacts in our archive we will present photographs, books, maps, tools and stories about the 640-acre farm. Now in public land conservation, the farm grew vegetables, hay, corn and supported livestock for over 200 years. Most of all, it employed hundreds of citizens in the area - many of whom remained in Bennington. We aim to honor those employees and connect their histories to the modern Bennington community. In addition to the exhibition of materials, we are compiling an oral history archive in partnership with the Skidmore Storytelling institute, the McCullough Free Library, and many more. If you are a relative of a former employee (or know one) please don't hesitate to contact us to tell your story.
Exhibition opening - Friday, May 20th, 4pm
For our 2016 season, tours of the House will be Friday and Saturday 10:00am to 2:00pm (last tour at 1:00), Sunday 12:00am - 4:00pm (last tour at 3:00). This schedule will run through Columbus Day weekend in October.
We will also be open for tours on the following holidays: Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day), July 4th, Sept. 5 (Labor Day), and Oct. 10 (Columbus Day). These special Monday hours will be from 10am - 2pm.
Our music series returns this year with a broader spectrum of works. Complimenting our strong foundation of classical chamber music, we'll be presenting Jazz, Bluegrass, Rock, and Contemporary Classical in our spacious, resonant, carriage barn. First this year will be Adam Tinkle and Kyle Motl on Friday, May 20th, 6pm
Further performances will be announced as they approach.
Sign up is still open for our 2016 season. The first meeting will be June 9th, and games begin on June 16th. Form your team of three or four and join us on the pitch! The price is $100 per season, broken down as follows:
- $50 - PMH membership for one year
- $50 - 10 evenings of Croquet play
- Court set-up
- Buffet set-up
- Cash bar set up and organized by PMH
