History & Heritage Lunch

Enjoy a light lunch, refreshments, and further discussion on this year’s special exhibition theme: the women of the house and the community, and the history and heritage of handwork (think needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, mending, quilting, sewing, and other arts and tasks).
The fourth and final in the series, this History & Heritage Lunch culminates the previous three, encompassing knitting brigades, the rise of the Singer sewing machine, the weaving of personal story as presented in With Her Own Hands by Nicole Nehrig, and the stories attendees shared that stemmed from those topics. Consider September 17th's History & Heritage Lunch a "Fiber Arts Salon." Contemplation on, conversation about, and consideration of women's handwork from our pasts, in the present, and for the generations to come.
*Optional. The museum will open for special access immediately following to view the Bennington College student-curated exhibition "The Stitches Between Us: Women's Handwork and Our Shared Stories." A special guided prompt experience accompanies attendees, allowing the conversation to continue throughout the museum.
