Park-McCullough is one of New England's finest, most significant, and best-preserved Victorian homes. Attorney and entrepreneur Trenor Park completed his family’s summer residence in 1865. A Second Empire Style masterpiece, the Estate retains the integrity and impact of its original design. The "Big House," as it was fondly referred to, was lived in by two Vermont Governors and four generations of family until 1965.

The structures and grounds we conserve and present for our visitors are valuable gateways to the history of the region and the country. The Park-McCullough Historic Governor’s Mansion is a must-visit, whether just to walk the grounds or take a guided tour of the mansion.

Recreation

The Mile-Around Woods is a walking trail accessible through the Hiland Hall Gardens, adjacent to the Park-McCullough on the family's former farmlands. Trenor Park created the single-mile walk to promote calm and relaxation; it has been open for public use since the 1980s. The land is now managed by the Fund for North Bennington, which has expanded the single walk with over 6 miles of accessible trails. The woods and fields are a favorite spot for neighbors and have become a daily routine for many. The gardens and walking trails are open from dawn to dusk. Pets must be leashed.
