A Fiber Arts Workshop:
Stitching Memories Together
with Artists Janet Fredericks & Lily Hinrichsen
October 11, 2026
9/9:30 - 4 PM, Carriage Barn, Historic Park-McCullough
Bring your stories and memories to this hands-on fiber workshop. Be inspired by its rich history, as well as your own, as you create a unique collaged fabric keepsake.
Begin your morning with an optional custom tour of the current handwork exhibit (The Stitches Between Us: Women’s Handwork & Our Shared Stories), offered by museum staff at 9 am. At 9:30, we’ll gather for introductions and warming refreshments, while Artist Facilitators Janet and Lily share their work to inspire and guide. We’ll follow with reflection on significant people, places, objects, and experiences from our pasts, and set intentions for our personal work. We’ll consider layout and composition, construction methods, embellishment choices, and techniques for transferring photos onto paper and cloth. In the afternoon, we’ll assemble our curated collection of fabric, notions, images, and objects, experimenting with functional and decorative stitches (we welcome you to bring your favorite stitches to share!). Wind down over tea and goodies, and we’ll celebrate your work from 3:30 - 4 pm.
This workshop welcomes experienced and novice stitchers alike. All materials are provided, while participants are also encouraged to bring their own treasured keepsakes, photos, mementos, and fabrics to incorporate.
Vermont artists Janet Fredericks and Lily Hinrichsen began as painters and fell in love with the possibilities of handstitching and fabric during the pandemic. Their approach is improvisational, allowing the spontaneity of “feral” (freely-crafted) stitching to come through. Their workshops are known for encouraging exploration with an emphasis on playful creativity. They will assist you every step of your creative process throughout this workshop.
